   Youth Opportunities Unlimited is a non-profit organisation that helps at-risk youth. The five story building we designed for them includes a drop-in center that serves daily meals, a childcare center, a work cafe and a student art studio. The second floor contains offices and staff space as well as suite style living to transition homeless youth off of the street. The third and fourth floors are entirely apartments that are available for the public to rent and the fifth floor is mainly an open terrace with a small interior space that is also available to rent.

   The design concept for this project included two main goals. The first was to create a bright, open space that brings aspects of nature inside to create increased feelings of wellbeing for the the youth. This was done through large windows, outdoor spaces and green roofs. The second goal was to create a modern overall design that still ties in with the heritage feel of downtown London. This was done mainly through material selection. Brick that resembles the local brick of the surrounding buildings was chosen as well as similar landscaping and patios.
